Today we&#8217;re talking about why Louisville is the Top 10 <strong>best cities for homeowners<\/strong> according to Bankrate.com. In their most recent rankings, Louisville came in at #9, and here&#8217;s why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"570\" height=\"321\" src=\"https:\/\/trepryor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/cute_clifton_homes.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of two cute homes in Clifton Louisville KY\" class=\"wp-image-7677\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trepryor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/cute_clifton_homes.jpg 570w, https:\/\/trepryor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/cute_clifton_homes-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bankrate released their best cities for homeowners and Louisville made the top ten!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>According to their story, here are the factors Bankrate used to rank U.S. cities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Property taxes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Affordability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Property insurance costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foreclosure rates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintenance costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Average monthly home energy costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appreciation rate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rent hedging<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Those look right to me! Especially the last one, rents in our city have continued to climb in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best Cities for Homeowners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Portland, Oregon came out on top in the 2016 rankings, followed by Phoenix and then Atlanta. For our regional neighbors, they landed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>#6 Indianapolis, IN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>#9 Louisville, KY<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#10 Nashville, TN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#15 Memphis, TN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#18 Cincinnati, OH<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the worst cities for homeowners are ones you would likely guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>#50 Hartford, CT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#49 New York, NY<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#48 Providence, RI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#47 Los Angeles, CA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This report only included the <em>largest<\/em> 50 metro areas so Lexington, KY didn&#8217;t make the cut, otherwise, I would say it would rank fairly high.
