1. Before You Pack<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before you start packing, go through your home, every closet, drawer, dresser, and so on, to get rid of unnecessary<\/em> items that you no longer use or find value in. You can sell items on markets like Facebook or Craigslist, have a garage sale, donate items, and give away or trash the rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll make some extra cash and have less to move when it\u2019s time. You don\u2019t want to worry about storing junk, and you definitely don\u2019t want to move it into your new place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a few include not wasting bags or boxes by packing things like towels \u2013 use kitchen and bath towels to wrap fragile items like your dishes, and bedding to protect a television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pack your books inside a rolling suitcase so they aren\u2019t as difficult to move. Bring an “essentials” suitcase for everything you\u2019ll need for a week so that you don\u2019t have to scramble to find a clean shirt when you\u2019re busy unpacking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the best tips to prepare for a big move is to hire a professional. It’s a massive task to take on alone, especially if you\u2019re moving across the country<\/a>. There are really two choices when hiring help. You can either hire a professional to load your items into a truck and move it for you, or you can hire a container company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The container company, such as PODS<\/a>, will deliver a large container for you to pack. You can keep it as long as you want, for a fee of course. When you\u2019re done packing, the company will move it for you. It will take a week or two depending on how far you are moving, but it will save you the cost of renting a truck and give you more time to pack and then unload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Change Your Address<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before you move, make a list of contacts<\/strong> such as insurance, DMV, and other companies you receive bills from. Be sure you notify them of your move by updating your address with them.
