As people move through life, they tend to acquire more and more stuff. We call this “clutter.” While it can be a comforting and cathartic activity to have a good clear-out, you may as well make the most of the space that you currently have. There are many ways to increase storage space and they also increase the value of your home<\/a>. But here we will look at a few general ideas to give you more breathing room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use Height <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t use the available height in your rooms, you are missing out on a big area. Rather than trying to force everything together on the ground, you could invest in some high shelving or a grand bookcase to increase storage space<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternatively, you could make use of the highest part of your home \u2014 the attic. Often, this is just a disused space that could easily act as a storage area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanging Hooks <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hooks<\/a> can be useful for holding anything from coats to utensils, and they are an effective storage solution as they make use of space on walls that would otherwise be wasted. Kitchens are often rooms that can get easily overcrowded, too, but you can make plenty of space by hanging up bulky pots and pans. You can also use them in the bathroom for hanging up chunkier items like towels and dressing gowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pop-Up Storage <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Pop-up storage refers to anything that can be put up and taken down easily. For example, you can get clothes baskets that spring up. If you find that you no longer need them, you can simply put them away again. There are also bigger and grander versions of this same concept such as portable carport kits<\/a>, which provide shelter for your vehicles if you don\u2019t have a garage space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look around your home. You are bound to find some space that would have otherwise been wasted<\/a>. A classic example is under the bed. If you don\u2019t have drawers already built into the bed, you could simply slide a few boxes full of stuff underneath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another great example is behind your doors. While you are not going to be able to fit a huge amount behind here, you could fit in a narrow shelf. And what about your suitcases? Many people leave them empty, but they are a great place to store seasonal clothes that you don\u2019t need at the moment. You can reverse your summer\/winter wardrobe every six months and store the rest in your suitcases until the weather starts to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Double-Decker Closet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you have a closet that is big enough, you can fit in two clothes rails. This way, you can fit in twice the amount of clothing and minimize the space being wasted. If you are a bit of a DIY enthusiast, this is the type of job you can take care of yourself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
