I love it when Louisville gets the attention it deserves. Today we’re talking about why Louisville is the Top 10 best cities for homeowners according to Bankrate.com. In their most recent rankings, Louisville came in at #9, and here’s why.
According to their story, here are the factors Bankrate used to rank U.S. cities:
- Property taxes
- Affordability.
- Property insurance costs
- Foreclosure rates
- Maintenance costs
- Average monthly home energy costs
- Appreciation rate
- Rent hedging
Those look right to me! Especially the last one, rents in our city have continued to climb in recent years.
Best Cities for Homeowners
Portland, Oregon came out on top in the 2016 rankings, followed by Phoenix and then Atlanta. For our regional neighbors, they landed as follows:
- #6 Indianapolis, IN
- #9 Louisville, KY
- #10 Nashville, TN
- #15 Memphis, TN
- #18 Cincinnati, OH
Some of the worst cities for homeowners are ones you would likely guess.
- #50 Hartford, CT
- #49 New York, NY
- #48 Providence, RI
- #47 Los Angeles, CA
This report only included the largest 50 metro areas so Lexington, KY didn’t make the cut, otherwise, I would say it would rank fairly high. For the complete list, check out How Bankrate determined the best and worst cities for homeowners.
