Don’t forget to visit The Designers Show House if you haven’t yet! The annual event, sponsored by Bellarmine Women’s Council to benefit the University’s Student Aid Fund, is at Stonecote Estate, 1005 Alta Vista, off Lexington Rd. It’s a great place to get ideas for furniture, paint colors and other local decorating trends.
The first thing that caught my eye as I entered the living room was Tassels signature use of vivid color and pattern. A stunning painted secretary desk in one corner set the tone for the use of painted pieces throughout the house, including a desk in the study downstairs and a chest in a Modern Venetian-themed bedroom upstairs.
As at Homearama, upholstered headboards make a showing, as well as upholstered ottomans doing double duty as stools or tables and storage. Another trend was Art Deco-inspired mirrors, side tables, and other occasional pieces, a fun compliment to the more traditional designs.
As for paint colors, strong reddish-oranges made a statement in the master bedroom (Chili Pepper) and Domain’s colorful bedroom (Coral), as well as in accents throughout the house. A warm sage (Tapenade) was inviting in the upstairs sitting room by Hubbuch & Co., and again repeated throughout. The new neutral gray (Truffle by Ben Moore) was perfect in the bedroom by Southern Inspirations. Many paints were provided by PPG Porter Paints. [Edited 9/28]
In accessories, animal prints are strong, and the fleur de lys still reigns, featured prominently on an accent shelf in the upstairs hall by Interiors by Carrie. One of my favorite rooms, the anteroom sitting area by The French Pleat, combined several popular ideas, with colorful wallpaper and coordinating draperies, with leopard print chairs and a painted demilune table.
